The winner of the Studio21 Script Competition 2023 has been announced at the C21 International Drama Awards.
From the 23 shortlisted scripts, 6 finalists were selected to pitch their projects live at Content London, the prestigious annual TV industry event that attracts executives, producers and writers from around the world.
‘Rupture’ by Sally Jane Pitts was announced the Winner, but in an unprecedented move, Studio21’s David Jenkinson and Hayley McKenzie announced that the company would option all six finalist projects.
The competition, which is organised by C21-backed development producer Studio21 in association with Content London and Script Angel, is in its ninth edition and this year attracted more than 300 entries from some of the world’s most exciting emerging writers.
The winning project will be developed by Studio21, supported by an advisory board made up of the most creative showrunners and television executives in the business.
Previous winners now have their shows in development with leading producers, and the raft of new writers and projects taken under the Studio21 wing is commanding the attention of coproducers and commissioners worldwide.
As with last year’s winners, Jess Edwards and Laurence Turnbull, Sally Jane Pitts will receive £10,000 from Studio21 to option her project. Studio21 will further develop all six series in association with the writers to take them out internationally.
