About Us

Our story

Script Angel was founded in 2011 by experienced scripted development professional Hayley McKenzie. After many years working in the film and television industry, Hayley realised that writers struggling to break in didn’t have the opportunity to work with experienced script editors to help them develop their work.

Script Angel was formed to offer professional, tailored script development support to emerging and developing writers.

We passionately believe all screenwriters should have the opportunity to discover, develop and achieve their full potential.

Inclusivity lies at the heart of Script Angel’s values. All of the team passionately believe in the need for multiplicity of voices, perspectives and stories on our screens. They want to celebrate and amplify diversity of experience by helping writers from all backgrounds to be heard.

Helping writers with talent and professional ambition to unlock their potential and develop the skills they need to breakthrough drives the company’s endeavours.

As word has spread about the high quality service we provide to emerging writing talent, so the Script Angel team has grown to enable us to help many more writers, all over the world.

Success Stories

Just some of the writers we’ve helped to achieve screenwriting success

“I’m in the slightly unusual position of having worked with three different script coaches at Script Angel, as I kept coming back (!) whenever I wanted to level up my work or was stuck with getting a new idea on paper.

Each coach brought something distinct to the process, but what remained constant was the comprehensive development support, the warmth, and the insistence that I push my writing further than I thought I could – with the safe space to do so.

They didn’t just help me to develop my work – they helped develop me as a writer.”

Danielle Reid

“I would recommend Script Angel to any writer wanting to improve a piece of work. They are so constructive in their critique and approachable that you are left raring to tackle the next draft. Thanks very much!”

Roland Moore

“Script Angel are exceptional script editors who champion writers. Hayley and her team combine honest, incisive feedback with genuine career guidance, and they actively open doors when the right opportunities come along.

Thanks to them, my script Never Too Late was commissioned by Channel 5 as part of its revamped Play for Today strand.

Smart, supportive and genuinely fun to work with — I wouldn’t go anywhere else.”

Simon Warne

“I can’t recommend Script Angel enough. I started coaching with a very clear goal, and I hit that goal entirely thanks to everything I learned through coaching.

It is the best thing I have ever done for myself in my professional life. I learned so much from working with my coach, who also taught me about the workings of the industry, and how to independently push ahead with my studies to keep improving.

Ultimately I went from being a complete newbie, to being hired as a screenwriter in the course of a year. I learnt the craft, and the rules, and then I learnt how to break them. I refer to the teaching I received through Script Angel in every aspect of my writing.

It was also a very productive time for me; I wrote two features and a pilot under the careful supervision of my coach, and had the most brilliant notes along the way which, along with deadlines, really helped motivate me to get the work done. I would encourage anyone who wants to be a screenwriter, and has the means, to take the leap and start working with Hayley and her team of coaches.

It really has changed the direction of my career in ways I didn’t think possible.”
